This is a guided hike with a local guide that will point out wildlife, plants and some of their uses, indigenous history, and history of the area along your hike.
Begin your hike at the parking lot at the end of Vera Linda Lane. Follow the trail through the forest, where you can see and hear many different songbirds.
Continue onto the dunes, where the trail can get slightly more difficult due to the sand. Enjoy views of the surrounding forest and mountains, as well as the Pacific Ocean.
Walk along the beach, where you can try and spot whales spouting and coastal birds feeding during low tide. This can be a good spot for a snack break if you have kids and they can play on the beach. Then, loop back over the dunes and through the forest.
Follow the Mad River slough, a good opportunity to see wetland birds and critters in the estuary, like the occasional seal or otter. The tour ends at the parking lot where we started.
This tour is rated easy-moderate difficulty level. Moderate only because you are walking through sand for some of the trail.
If you are more interested in seeing wildlife and birds I recommend to book early in the morning or later in the afternoon when the wildlife are more active.
This tour is open to all ages and includes water and bug spray for you to use. If you have any questions please let us know!
