The Villa enjoyed its heyday during the most splendid era of the town of Spello, which was known in ancient times as Hispellum. Its inclusion in the Rescript of Constantine, ranks it among the cities that distinguish themselves for their beauty and appearance. It all began with an incidental discovery of mosaics in July of 2005.
