商品説明
Visit the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, one of Rome’s four Major Papal Basilicas and one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches, on a focused one-hour Catholic pilgrimage tour.
The basilica stands over the burial place of St Paul, Apostle to the Gentiles and, with St Peter, one of the two great Pillars of the Church. Pray before the Apostle’s tomb and see the ancient sarcophagus associated with his burial. Venerate the chain preserved here, linked to St Paul’s Roman imprisonment, while your expert Catholic guide connects the basilica to the Scriptural account of his mission, captivity and martyrdom.
Discover the crucifix associated with a vision granted to St Bridget of Sweden, together with the basilica’s monumental nave, papal portraits, triumphal arch and apse mosaics. The sacred art and architecture proclaim the Faith St Paul preached and reveal why this church remains a living place of pilgrimage rather than merely an historic monument.
The first basilica was established near St Paul’s tomb in the fourth century. After the devastating fire of 1823, it was rebuilt with great fidelity to its earlier form, preserving the scale and splendour of one of Christendom’s great churches.
See the Holy Door, normally closed outside Jubilee years. The next Jubilee of the Redemption is anticipated in 2033.
St Paul Outside the Walls is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Shoulders and knees must be covered. The tour lasts one hour and ends at the basilica, close to Basilica San Paolo station on Metro Line B.
