A few kilometers from Cologne lies Bonn, another important city of Roman origin along the Rhine River.
We start the tour from the Duomo square, where the monument to Ludwig van Beethoven stands. He was the most illustrious son of Bonn and spent his youth here.
The main church is not a cathedral, but a Münster, that is, the ancient collegiate church of St. Cassius, the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral, which houses a precious jewel: the original Romanesque cloister.
Another monument we will discover is the former city castle, now home to the University: who was the Prince of Bonn? What historical events led to the disappearance of the Princely Court and Beethoven's transfer to Vienna?
A little further on is the Town Hall Square, the historic Rathaus, whose steps were trodden by many illustrious men from the 1960s until the fall of the Berlin Wall, when Bonn was the capital of West Germany.
The tour concludes in front of Beethoven's birthplace, an original 17th-century building, where you will discover interesting details about the life of the genius of classical music, and where you can decide, after the guide, whether to go inside and visit the museum dedicated to him.
