After a great fire destroyed the town in 1904, it was rebuilt almost entirely in the elegant style of the time, and today it is unlike anywhere else in the country. As you stroll the city center, your guide points out the towers, turrets, and decorative facades and tells the story of the fire and the town's remarkable rebirth.

Wander along the Brosundet canal at the heart of the town, past colorful facades and fishing boats reflected in the water, then continue into the surrounding streets and along the waterfront, taking in the atmosphere of this lively coastal town at an easy, unhurried pace.
