In December, Delft’s historic city center provides the perfect setting for the one-and-only Delft Christmas Walk. Following the great success of previous years, we are organizing the third edition this year. And what better place to start the walk than at the city’s largest Christmas tree in the Market Square? Our guide will meet you there. During the walk, they will share wonderful stories about Delft—covering the city itself, Christmas in Delft, and the now-beloved *Delft Verlicht* (Delft Illuminated) festival. But that’s not all: we will also visit local businesses that all share a special connection to Christmas.
Take *The Christmas Shop* on Voldersgracht, for instance; it’s the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit right away. Owners Edwin and Robin will talk about their passion for Christmas and the story behind their shop and successful online store. Naturally, the year’s Christmas trends will be discussed, and there will be time to browse at your leisure.
The walk also includes a visit to *Stadskaarsenmakerij Delft* (Delft City Candle Workshop), because candles are an essential part of Christmas. Here, city candle maker Edward will tell us all about the candle-making process and the history of the craft in Delft. Of course, there is time here too to look around and perhaps pick up a Christmas gift (or treat yourself to one). The Christmas collection is stunning again this year.
A delightful stop awaits us on Trompetstraat at *Koekjesbakkerij De Glimlach* (The Smile Cookie Bakery). We’ll visit the owners, Marc and Mariska, as they freshly bake Christmas tree-shaped cookies, savory cheese biscuits perfect for drinks, and—of course—traditional Christmas wreath cookies. The entire bakery (and the street outside) smells delicious. We’ll get to taste the treats and ask any questions we might have.
A good Christmas dinner calls for a fine glass of wine, doesn't it? And let’s not forget the mulled wine! Arjan from Wine & More knows all about it. He’ll share the best tips for pairing the right wine with your Christmas dishes and explain how to make a delicious pot of mulled wine at home. It’s sure to be a treat!
The walk concludes at Stads-Koffyhuis, where you can warm up and reflect on the tour. Will you choose a hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine? You’ll also be treated to a tasty *oliebol* (Dutch doughnut) with raisins—a delightful and cozy end to the Delft Christmas walk.
