The infamous District 4 around Langstrasse has a short but extremely turbulent history. The district is known for its authenticity, multicultural diversity, and cosmopolitan spirit. What was once considered a catchment area for immigrants and drug addicts has transformed into a vibrant neighborhood full of contrasts.
The red-light district still shapes places like the "Bermuda Triangle," and in the alleys around Langstrasse, the wild spirit of bygone times can be felt in countless bars and clubs.
It is precisely this contrast that galleries, architectural firms, creative designers, and restaurants take advantage of to let their creativity run wild in the "Chreis Cheib." The term "Cheib" comes from the word for animal carcasses – a reference to the pits that once existed here. They have long since disappeared, but the name has survived and remains a hallmark of the district to this day.
