Art Nouveau in Vienna's center - from Otto Wagner to Gustav Klimt｜Austria

Around 1900, many artists were tired of the Historicism that prevailed in Vienna at that time: they wanted to escape the constraints of Ringstrasse architecture with fresh ideas and make a statement. A new style was spreading throughout Europe. The idea of the "Gesamtkunstwerk" found its ardent followers and also developed its own forms in Vienna – whether in architecture, household goods, jewelry, or fashion. The home of the "Junge Wilde" was the Secession, the epitome of bold, unconventional architecture and affectionately referred to in Viennese vernacular as the Goldenes Krauthappel.

On the guided tour, we focus on this unmistakable era, which still shapes the Viennese cityscape today, is closely associated with names such as Otto Wagner, Koloman Moser, and Gustav Klimt, and came to an abrupt end with their deaths.
