Combining an insider tour of an active craft distillery with guided tastings, this experience reveals the physics, fruit lore, and barrel-aging techniques behind traditional Czech "pálenka".
Learn how traditional South Bohemian orchard harvests are converted into authentic Slivovice (plum), Hruškovice (pear), and Meruňkovice (apricot) brandies without added sugars or artificial flavors. Descend into the cool cellar vault—where spirits age in oak casks.
Conclude with a live tasting. Sample 6 artisanal pours—including traditional fruit spirits, aged brandy, and sweet herbal liqueurs.
Distillation in the Český Krumlov region began as a domestic side effect of noble estate management. During the reign of the Rosenberg dynasty, the noble court established large estate orchards around castle manors. Distillation was tightly controlled through aristocratic monopolies (propina rights), requiring serfs to buy spirits exclusively from noble estate taverns.
Local cottage stills operated in surrounding villages and monastery estates. to turn plum harvests into Slivovice. Grain alcohol (kořalka) and herbal elixirs were distilled primarily as medicinal remedies or high-proof agricultural commodities.
Private distilling was strictly banned. Modern micro-distilleries arose to preserve traditional South Bohemian fruit brandy production using modern copper pot stills.
