Begin your experience at Lynch's Castle, where powerful merchant families once controlled the city. Here, your guide introduces Galway’s medieval past and the influence of the Tribes of Galway.
Nearby, at Lynch’s Window, hear one of the most chilling stories in Irish history. In 1493, Mayor James Lynch Fitz Stephen is said to have executed his own son after he was found guilty of murder, giving rise to the term “lynching.”
Continue through the city to Spanish Arch and the Long Walk, where ghost stories and local legends bring the past to life. Along the River Corrib, hear tales of famine victims, lost sailors, and unexplained sightings reported over generations.
Learn about Irish folklore, including the banshee, whose haunting cry is said to foretell death, as well as legends of dark figures said to roam the streets at night.
At Galway Cathedral, uncover the site’s history as a former prison associated with executions, disease, and hardship. Then visit St Nicholas' Collegiate Church, where stories of grave robbing, Cromwell’s forces, and medieval burial practices reveal another layer of Galway’s past.
Conclude your tour at The King's Head Pub on Shop Street. Choose to upgrade your experience to include a Blood Red Ale, a special brew poured to a clear red color and exclusive to the pub.
