Vieux Lyon is beautiful to explore on your own, but the real magic is in the stories hidden behind the façades, courtyards and passageways. This walk will help you understand what you’re seeing and make Lyon's fascinating history come alive.
We'll meet in a quiet square and begin with a glimpse of Lyon’s Roman past before stepping inside one of the city’s most remarkable historic landmarks.
From there, slip into Lyon’s famous traboules: secret passageways and Renaissance courtyards hidden behind unassuming doors. Some are easy to miss, some are easy to get lost in, and that’s half the fun!
We’ll continue toward the Saône, following the river through photogenic streets and tucked-away corners, including a few places most visitors would walk straight past. Not you though, you've got me to show you the way.
Along the way, taste one of Lyon’s most beloved local pastries, made from a top secret recipe and now something of an institution in the city.
Then it’s time to rest our feet a little and let the funicular do the climbing for us. We'll head up Fourvière hill, where we’ll explore its gloriously over-the-top basilica and finish with one of the best views over Lyon.
