During this guided visit to Lorient, you will explore the unique history of this port city founded in the 17th century by the East India Company, the real driving force behind French trade with Asia.
You will relive the vibrancy of this young city, over 360 years old, born from a shipyard, before delving into one of the darkest periods in its history: World War II. Ravaged by bombing, Lorient still bears the traces of this period of mass destruction.
During a 90-minute walking tour, travel from the Enclos du Port, the historic heart of the East India Company, to Place Alsace-Lorraine, under which the remains of the conflict still survive. At each stop, you will follow the daily life of the people of Lorient through the centuries, from maritime prosperity to the trauma of war and the rebirth after 1945.
