Meiningen, the secret capital of Germany? At least that's what the WDR investigated a few years ago, choosing Meiningen as the ideal location and awarding the small town in southern Thuringia the title of "Q-City." That's not really wrong. Until 1918, Meiningen was the capital and residence of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen. To this day, the buildings of that time shape the Meiningen cityscape, and many sights are closely linked to the duchy. The theater is a big crowd puller, but Elisabethenburg Palace, the Goetz Cave, and the newly opened steam locomotive adventure world near the traditional steam locomotive plant also attract numerous guests every year. Our tour guides specialize in visiting the most beautiful places in the city center and sharing the most important facts and entertaining anecdotes about the city's history. The tour starts at the Meiningen Tourist Information Office and lasts about 1.5 hours. It's offered every Saturday at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and every Monday at 2:00 PM.
