This tour starts early in the morning with a drive in a vehicle leaving Villavieja, and then walking through different parts of the Tatacoa Desert and the Bambuca Forest Reserve in search of different birds, some of which are endemic.
The Tatacoa Desert is a special place for bird watching due to the low human and animal occupation of the area and because of the geographical diversity that it is given by being located between the Eastern Andes and the Magdalena River. Up to 72 species were recorded in the Desert area and the river next to Villavieja during a 6-day expedition. A specialist guide will accompany us on two short trails of 1.2 and 2 kilometers, one in the Cuzco part inside the Desert and the other closer to the river bank, where we can observe species such as the roadside hawk (Rupornis magnirostris), the bush (or scrub) tanager (Tangara vitriolina) or the endemic velvet-fronted euphonia (Euphonia concinna).
