商品説明

Port Louis keeps its story scattered across the harbour, its crowded streets, its quiet places of worship and the counters where the city stops to eat. On this walk your local guide connects those clues, so the capital becomes a place you can read rather than just a city you passed through.

You begin by the water at Caudan and follow the old working harbour past the Granary, the sugar terminal and Les Moulins de la Concorde, where nearby monuments open up colonisation, independence and the Republic. Past the old windmill the pace slows at the Intercontinental Slavery Museum and Aapravasi Ghat, and your guide brings human scale to the histories of slavery, abolition, indenture and migration that still shape Mauritius today.

Behind two unassuming doorways, incense and garlands give way to vanilla, spices and lentils. These are not museum displays but living places where belief, food and daily Mauritian life meet. Beneath the iron and glass of the Central Market you find your place in the rhythm of the traders, then share a freshly made dholl puri and a glass of cold sugarcane juice. At the Jummah Mosque, architecture opens the story of the Muslim community in Mauritius, and a traditional tea shop nearby supplies local snacks and unhurried conversation. Under the Chinatown arch, an old pharmacy, Sino-Mauritian boulettes and traditional sweets trace Chinese immigration and trade, and the story leads on to a community-kept pagoda where ritual is quietly present.

From Fort Adelaide, known locally as La Citadelle, the whole walk gathers into a single view of the harbour, the city centre and the mountains, showing how closely the quarters and communities of Port Louis sit beside one another. You return past the old prison and through Company Garden, with the Photography Museum and Pem Wood's carving gallery to close the walk, and are back at Caudan by 14:00 Monday to Friday or 12:00 on Saturday. The tour starts at 10:30 Monday to Friday and 8:30 on Saturday. We do not operate on Sunday.
