Journey through the historic Shirvan region and deep into the Greater Caucasus mountains on a private full-day tour from Baku. This itinerary blends medieval royal heritage, ancient Islamic architecture, and traditional handcrafts.
Stop 1: Shamakhi Juma Mosque Your private driver will collect you directly from your accommodation in Baku. Travel west toward Shamakhi, the ancient capital of the Shirvanshah Empire. Your first stop is the magnificent Shamakhi Juma Mosque, originally built in 743 AD. Admire its vast prayer halls, broad multi-domed architecture, and peaceful courtyard grounds.
Stop 2: Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum (Seven Domes) Next, ascend to the hilltop overlooking Shamakhi to explore the Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum complex. Built in 1802 as the royal burial ground for the family of Mustafa Khan (the last ruler of the Shamakhi Khanate), this historic cemetery features octagonal stone mausoleums, ancient carved gravestones, and sweeping views across the valley.
Stop 3: Scenic Drive through Girdimanchay Canyon Leave the highway and travel into the rugged foothills of Ismayilli. Experience a scenic drive along winding mountain roads and narrow canyon walls carved by the Girdimanchay River.
Stop 4: Lahij Village & Coppersmith Workshops Arrive in Lahij, an isolated mountain village renowned for its unique wood-framed stone architecture designed to resist earthquakes. Stroll down cobblestone main streets lined with artisan shops. Watch master craftsmen hammer intricate patterns onto copper plates, pots, and samovars—a craft inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Learn about the village's ancient subterranean drainage system before enjoying free time for lunch or souvenir shopping.
After exploring Lahij, enjoy a comfortable and scenic return drive directly back to your hotel in Baku.
