This exciting excursion includes an exclusive boat trip to the penguin colony, a visit to the most southern fishing village on the planet, and a unique dining experience on the "Ruta de la Centolla" (King Crab Route). Just 43 miles (70 km) from Ushuaia, Puerto Almanza is a charming village renowned for its artisanal king crab and outstanding seafood cuisine, all in a carefully preserved natural environment.
The trip begins in the afternoon from Ushuaia, traveling along Route 3 through Andean-Patagonian forests, majestic mountains, and vast peatlands. After passing through winter resorts, we take Route "J" south, bordering the Lasifashaj River, where you can see dams built by beavers introduced from Canada.
Once in Almanza, we board a small boat to sail through the Beagle Channel, approaching the islands in an ecosystem-friendly experience. On the way to Martillo Island, we enjoy stunning landscapes and spot seabirds until we reach the area inhabited by Magellanic and Papuas penguins, which we can observe from a safe distance.
Back on dry land, we visit the picturesque village, inhabited by about 15 families who make their living from artisanal fishing, trout farming, and shellfish gathering. The village represents the essence of southern life and its gastronomic identity.
There, we'll enjoy seafood tapas with local delicacies in a privileged natural environment. Then, we'll hike to the Cascada del Duende, a hidden corner of the forest formed by meltwater. At the end, we return to Ushuaia.
