Argentina is often represented as predominantly white, resulting from the immigration of Europeans. Other countries in Latin America are well known for their Indigenous cultures and influences. What about Argentina? Is it really a place with no Indigenous identity?
In this two-and-a-half-hour tour, you will visit some of the places in San Nicolás, Puerto Madero and Monserrat that tie Argentina's history and culture with that of Indigenous peoples of the country. You will learn about the Native peoples that have inhabited this territory since ancient times, their role during Colonial and Independence periods, the violence perpetrated to them in the late 19th century, the influence of these groups in today’s Argentinian culture, and the struggles they are currently facing.
It is preferred that you have a basic knowledge of Argentinian history and culture. However, of course, the guide will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
The tour starts at the Juana Azurduy Monument and ends at Plaza de Mayo. Please bear in mind that no restroom stop is planned for this tour. We suggest you plan accordingly. In case of bad weather, the tour might be cancelled, and you can choose whether to reschedule or get a full refund.
