This club, founded in 1904, is popularly known in Argentina as "El semillero" (The Seedbed), as it has produced great players who have shone both in the national league and in foreign teams. These include Juan Román Riquelme, Claudio Borghi, Sergio Batista, Fernando Redondo, and, of course, Diego Armando Maradona (considered one of the greatest players in history). The Argentinos Juniors stadium bears the name of Diego Armando Maradona, a symbol of the memory of one of its most exemplary students.
The team has a long tradition of championships and national and international titles:
Metropolitan Championship, 1984
National Championship, 1985
Copa Libertadores Championship, 1985
