Arrive in Musanze, gateway to Rwanda’s volcanic wonders, and check into your lodge. Spend the evening unwinding in a tranquil natural setting, surrounded by fresh mountain air and anticipation for the adventures ahead.
Day 2: Conquer Mount Bisoke – A Journey Above the Clouds
Wake early for a thrilling day of adventure. After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for registration and briefing before setting off on your Mount Bisoke hike. This is not just a hike, it’s a journey through ever-changing ecosystems: from dense rainforest alive with birdsong, to misty bamboo forests, and finally into the afro-alpine zone.
As you ascend the slopes of Mount Bisoke, each step reveals more dramatic views. Reach the summit, where a spectacular crater lake awaits, nestled within the volcanic caldera. The moment is surreal: clouds drifting over emerald waters, silence broken only by the wind.
Enjoy your picnic lunch at the top of the world before descending back through the lush landscapes, often with chances to spot unique wildlife along the way. Return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest and a peaceful evening reflecting on your achievement.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking – A Rare and Playful Encounter
Rise early for a magical wildlife experience. After breakfast, return to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering the forest in search of the endangered Golden Monkeys. Trek through the vibrant bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park, where these energetic primates leap gracefully between branches, their golden-orange fur glowing in the morning light.
Once located, spend a full hour immersed in their world; watching them feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. It’s an intimate and joyful encounter, unlike any other in Africa.
