Begin your day with an early morning departure from Kigali. As you climb higher into the Nyabihu District, the air turns crisp and the hills transform into a vibrant, velvety green.
Start your day with a hike to the summit of the iconic "Breast of Bigogwe" rock. This 500-foot cliff offers panoramic views of Mt. Karisimbi and the Gishwati Forest. At the peak, find the "Meditation Point"—a silent space used by locals for prayer and reflection.
Descend from the rock and head to the farms. Here, you’ll be welcomed into the community. You’ll be dressed in a traditional Shuka and handed an Inkoni. You are no longer a tourist; you are a guardian of the herd.
Learn the rhythmic art of hand-milking cows into traditional wooden containers called Ibyansi. Experience the famous "Bigogwe Cappuccino"—fresh, warm milk tasted straight from the source.
While the cows graze, join the herdsmen in traditional games like Urukiramende (high jump) or Igisoro. Listen to the Kwivugira Inka—ancient, poetic songs chanted specifically to the cows to keep them calm and happy.
Join the afternoon procession as the cowboys whistle and sing to lead the massive herd down to the river for their daily drink. It is a powerful display of the bond between man and beast.
Share a final snack of roasted maize or sweet potatoes with your hosts before beginning the scenic journey back to Kigali.
