Step into the regal world of Rwanda’s monarchy at the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza. This reconstructed traditional palace showcases the architectural elegance of the 19th-century Rwandan monarchy. Explore the royal residence, the queen mother’s quarters, and witness the majestic Inyambo cattle, known for their impressive horns and ceremonial significance.

Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the final resting place for over 250,000 victims of the 1994 genocide. Learn about the past through educational exhibits and take a moment for reflection.

Head to the Nyamata Genocide Memorial Centre, situated in a former church. This site commemorates the massacre of approximately 50,000 people and preserves personal artifacts of the victims.

Continue to the Bisesero Genocide Memorial Centre, which honors the resistance of Tutsi individuals who fought against the genocide, with around 40,000 people losing their lives in the area.

Next, visit the Ethnographic Museum in Huye, one of Africa’s finest ethnographic museums. Explore seven galleries displaying traditional artifacts, musical instruments, and historical exhibits that narrate Rwanda’s rich cultural tapestry.

In the southern town of Kibeho, visit the significant Catholic pilgrimage site where apparitions of the Virgin Mary were reported in the 1980s. Recognized by the Vatican, the shrine attracts pilgrims worldwide, especially on November 28th, the anniversary of the first apparition.

Finally, head to Lake Muhazi, with its serene waters and lush surroundings. Learn about its historical importance, as oral histories suggest that the Kingdom of Rwanda was founded along its shores in the 14th century, marking it as a cradle of Rwandan civilization.
