Step off the beaten path and discover the spiritual heart of medieval Serbia on this immersive 2-day journey through some of the country's most significant Orthodox monasteries. From the resting place of Prince Lazar to the UNESCO-listed treasures of Studenica, and a hike to a secluded hermitage once inhabited by St. Sava himself, this tour offers a rare blend of history, faith, and natural beauty — far from the typical tourist trail.
Spend the night at the Studenica Monastery guesthouse, giving you a truly authentic experience of monastic life, and wake up to a home-style breakfast before setting off on a scenic morning hike.
Day 1: Belgrade → Ravanica → Lešje → Studenica Depart from Belgrade in the morning, heading east to Ravanica Monastery, founded by Prince Lazar and historically linked to his relics and the Kosovo tradition. A short drive brings you to Lešje Monastery, a smaller, quieter site offering a peaceful and authentic atmosphere away from crowds. After a short break, continue toward Studenica Monastery, arriving in the afternoon for a guided visit of this UNESCO World Heritage Site — the largest and most important medieval Serbian monastery, home to remarkable frescoes and a rich treasury. In the evening, check in at the monastery guesthouse for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Hermitage of St. Sava → Žiča → Belgrade After breakfast at the guesthouse, set off on a moderate hike to the Hermitage of St. Sava, a secluded retreat set within a scenic gorge above Studenica — a place once used for prayer and meditation by one of Serbia's most important saints. After returning to Studenica and checking out, travel toward Žiča Monastery, known for its distinctive red façade and its role as the coronation site of Serbian medieval kings. From there, make your way back to Belgrade, arriving in the late afternoon.
