This experience has been designed to transport you back in time more than 600 years to an ancestral Central America that few have had the privilege of experiencing. More than an excursion, it is an encounter with the living history of the Emberá people, a proud community that has managed to preserve its traditions and way of life as it was before the Spanish colonization.
In the morning, we'll head to the Chagres National Park, located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Panama City. Once there, we'll board the traditional Emberá "piraguas" or canoes, hand-carved from a single log of wood.
At the end of the trip, we will see the Emberá Querá village, whose name means "Emberá Perfume," where we will be welcomed by our warm hosts. From then on, we will enjoy their music and dances, learn about their culture and customs, tour the community and visit their homes. We'll also have the opportunity to talk with the shaman, who will share knowledge about the medicinal use of jungle plants.
At lunch time, we'll enjoy a traditional menu consisting of fresh fish, fried green plantains, and fruit.
The Emberá are renowned for their fine craftsmanship and attention to detail, and for those who want to take home a special souvenir, a natural temporary tattoo made with jagua ink, a local palm seed, will be available.
