In the heart of Nosy Be lies a forest unlike any other—the Lokobe Integral Nature Reserve. The last large primary forest on Nosy Be, it is home to species found nowhere else on Earth. Your adventure begins with a crossing in a traditional wooden canoe, guided by local fishermen, gliding silently on the calm waters to the entrance of the reserve at Ampasipohy Beach. From your first steps under the canopy, your expert local live guide reveals its secrets: black lemurs (Eulemur macaco) jumping from branch to branch, brightly colored panther chameleons, the tiny Brookesia chameleon camouflaged on a leaf, and the extraordinary Uroplatus gecko – almost invisible on the bark. After the hike, enjoy a traditional Sakalava lunch on the beach: fresh fish of the day, coconut rice, and seasonal tropical fruits, facing the ocean.
