Places: Umajalanta Cave, Pampa + Chiflón Waterfalls, Turtle Cemetery, Museum
Umajalanta Cave This is the longest and deepest cave in Bolivia (4,600 meters long and 164 meters deep). The tour is mandatory with a tour guide and requires a helmet with a headlamp. Inside you will find stalactites and stalagmites, an underground river, blind fish (Trichomycterus chaberti), and passages where you will have to crawl, slide down natural slides, descend with ropes, and rappel. It's an active caving experience.
Carreras Pampa (Dinosaur Footprints) A site with a high concentration of petrified dinosaur footprints of different species and sizes. Your guide will show you everything from the footprints of large saurians to smaller tracks, as well as explain the geological eras and the marine rock strata visible in the area.
Chiflon Q'aqa A waterfall located in the Toro Toro Canyon where you can go rappelling (a descent of about 20 meters). It is a refreshing waterfall in the middle of the canyon.
Turtle Cemetery Paleontological site where fossils of prehistoric turtles can be observed. It is a fossil area of scientific interest within the park. Museum Interpretation center with information about the geology, paleontology and history of the park.
Difficulty level: HARD Cueva de Umajalanta requires crawling, confined spaces, rappelling, and walking on uneven stones. Not recommended for people who are claustrophobic or have mobility issues. The route to El Chiflón involves descending stone steps in the canyon. It is a very full day with multiple physical activities on uneven terrain and at high altitude (approx. 2,700 - 3,000 meters above sea level).
