If you are looking to explore the mountains without the rush of conventional tours, this is for you. We've designed this experience with your freedom in mind: you decide what time we start (between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM) so that the day fits your schedule.
We start the adventure by picking you up from your hotel to head out of the city to the Mirador de Jilarata vantage point. Here, surrounded by the pure air and stunning views of the Cordillera Real, our tour guide will share the mystique of the apachetas and their importance in Andean culture. We'll take the time to appreciate the magnitude of the mountains and capture unique photographs. Following local tradition, we'll pause for a moment to ask permission from the Achachilas (the protective spirits of the mountains), a necessary spiritual connection before entering their domain.
Before reaching the snow-capped mountain, we'll make stops at the Milluni lagoons and their historic cemetery, places with a unique atmosphere where the colors of the landscape allow you to capture incredible photos.
Upon reaching the base of the glacier, at about 4,800 meters, we'll give you eco-friendly trekking poles to start the hike. On this sightseeing tour, you set the pace; we take the time necessary for you to enjoy the geology of the place without any rush. After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, the Esmeralda Lagoon will appear before us, located at the foot of the imposing snow-capped mountain at a maximum height of 5,000 meters above sea level. This mirror of water stands out for its intense green color, created by minerals and melting ice. It's the perfect place to contemplate the magnitude of the Andes, feel the energy of eternal ice, and enjoy the peace of the mountains.
Back at the base of the glacier, we will be waiting for you with a delicious energy snack to regain your strength before heading back. Finally, we'll drop you off again at the door of your hotel in La Paz so you can rest after an unforgettable day in the mountains.
