Lace up your walking shoes and get your camera ready for a tour of some of the best off-the-beaten-path destinations in Old Hong Kong. Follow your guide to less-visited destinations that you wouldn't find on your own. Visit Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage shops that aren't found in guidebooks.
Monster Building - After the meeting, we will take a double-decker bus to visit Montane Mansion, also known by many as the “Monster Building.” It is an architectural complex made up of five old mansions, designed to resemble a walled city. It has recently become a popular filming location, including for productions such as “Transformer IV.”
Chun Yeung Street Wet Market - Hop aboard our iconic Ding Ding tram and ride to the vibrant area of North Point. Along the way, we’ll visit Chun Yeung Street wet market - a classic local favorite where you can still feel everyday Hong Kong life, just as it’s always been. And here’s the fun part, you can’t believe it until you see it. This wet market sits on a narrow street where the tram actually runs right through!
Family-Run Chinese Embroidery Slippers Store - One of the last few handmade Chinese embroidery slipper stores in Hong Kong, this business started in 1960. They persist in offering "Made in Hong Kong" products. (We only want to explain the history of Hong Kong; it is not an appointed shopping stop)
Petty Person Beating - Further down to another area for a taste of living culture - an ancient tradition of "petty person beating" (da siu yan in Cantonese) - a Chinese folk ritual to dispel evil, particularly the kind brought by enemies. This folk custom is not only included in the intangible cultural heritage but also published in the international book "Time Magazine" and is widely known around the world.
Traditional Herbal Tea Shop (Hong Kong's Intangible Cultural Heritage) - Herbal tea has a long history and carries unique folk wisdom and traditional culture. Herbal tea shops can be found everywhere in the olden days and herbal tea has become a staple drink in people’s daily lives. (we only want to explain the history of herbal tea, it is not an appointed shopping stop)
Traditional Chinese Confectionery Shop (Hong Kong's Intangible Cultural Heritage) - Hong Kong has a long history of making preserved fruits and these are one of the typical traditional delicacies of Hong Kong. Our knowledgeable tour guide will explain two traditional Chinese preserved fruit preparation methods. (we only want to explain the history of preserved fruit, it is not an appointed shopping stop)
Famous Wonton Noodle Restaurant - After your walk, relax with a well-deserved meal. Enjoy fragrant chicken broth and perfectly cooked noodles Taste savory shrimp & pork wontons in every delicious spoonful - warm, comforting, and simply unforgettable.
After the tour, your guide will accompany you back to Causeway Bay MTR station.
