Begin your adventure by departing from Zhangjiajie City. Take a taxi or pre-booked car from your hotel to the Qixing Mountain Tourist Center. The drive takes about 30-40 minutes. Have your hotel concierge write the destination in Chinese for the taxi driver: Qixing Mountain Visitor Center.
Purchase your entrance ticket and the necessary cable car pass. Board the "Dragon's Ascend" cable car. This isn't just transport; it's the first attraction. It's the longest pedestrian cable-way gondola in the world, stretching over 2 km. The ride offers jaw-dropping views as you ascend over 1000 meters vertically up the sheer cliff face. It's an exhilarating start to the day.
Follow the well-maintained paths along the edge of the cliffs. The views into the abyss are incredible. Look for the famous rock formation called "Knight's Eyebrow" and other naturally sculpted peaks.
There are restaurants and snack kiosks at the summit area. While options are typical Chinese tourist fare (noodles, rice dishes, quick bites), the real luxury is the view. Find a spot to sit and enjoy the scenery while you eat.
Get your adrenaline pumping by walking on the Glass Viewing Platform. It protrudes from the cliff, giving you the feeling of walking on air and a heart-stopping view straight down into the canyon.
Instead of taking the cable car back down, head for the "Sky Ladder." This is a giant outdoor cliff-side elevator that descends directly down the rock face. It's a unique and thrilling experience that offers a completely different perspective.
At the base, you can explore the lush greenery. Qixing Mountain is actually an ancient volcano, and you can see the remnants of its crater, now a peaceful, forested area.
