Begin your day with a visit to the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum. Stand on the elevated viewing platform and gaze down at thousands of life-sized terracotta warriors standing in battle formation within the earthen trenches.
After emerging from the museum, it is about time for lunch. Rather than a generic group meal, three kinds of authentic local cuisine are available for you to choose from. Whichever you choose, it allows you, after having measured history with your footsteps all morning, to savor the character of the Guanzhong Plain with your palate.
In the afternoon, step into Huaqing Palace. This garden complex, nestled at the foot of Mount Li, once served as a hot-spring retreat for the emperors of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties, but what truly softened its grandeur into tenderness was the love story of Emperor Xuanzong and his beloved consort Yang Guifei.
As dusk deepens, the silhouette of Mount Li becomes traced by light, and the day's grand finale is about to begin. Take your seat within the grounds of Huaqing Palace for the spectacular live-action historical dance drama, The Song of Everlasting Sorrow.
By the time the final scene illuminates the night sky over Mount Li and the immortal closing lines — "Heaven and earth may not last forever, but this sorrow is eternal" — spread through the darkness, you will know with certainty: this entire day's journey was worth it.
