This 90-minute workshop covers Chinese ink wash painting from technique to finished piece — on a traditional fan you take home.
The session opens with a structured introduction to ink wash technique: how to hold the brush, how pressure and water ratio change the stroke, and the basic vocabulary of marks that define Chinese ink painting.
From there, you paint your own design onto a real round fan. The instructor works with your level: complete beginners are guided through a composition step by step; guests with a painting background can explore more freely with the instructor's input.
Before you leave, the instructor inscribes both your Chinese and English name onto the fan in calligraphy — making it a piece that belongs specifically to you.
All materials are included. The session is held in central Shanghai, accessible by Metro Line 3, Line 4 and Line 9.
