Zaanse Schans and Zaandijk: windmills, chocolate & cheese｜Netherlands

Step outside Amsterdam and discover the traditional side of the Netherlands at Zaanse Schans.

This private tour is perfect if you want to experience classic Dutch landscapes, historic windmills, and local craftsmanship just a short journey from the city. We’ll meet at Stationsplein and travel directly to Zaanse Schans, a picturesque open-air area where time seems to stand still.

Here, you’ll explore iconic windmills, each with a different historical purpose — from oil and sawmills to spice grinding — and learn how they helped shape the Dutch Golden Age. You’ll also see traditional green wooden houses that reflect how life in this region looked centuries ago.

During the visit, we’ll stop at a local cheese shop for tastings of authentic Dutch cheeses and visit a workshop where you can see how traditional wooden shoes (clogs) are made. There will also be time to explore the area, take photos, and enjoy the scenic riverside views.

Afterwards, we’ll head back to Amsterdam.
