Your driver-guide picks you up at your Amsterdam hotel at 9:00 AM and drives to Volendam, a charming former fishing village on the shore of the Markermeer. In the afternoon you continue to Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage site where nineteen historic windmills stand along the canals, built centuries ago to drain the low-lying land. A boat cruise, included in your trip, glides you past the mills for the site's most beautiful views, while your driver-guide explains how the Dutch have held back the water for generations.
