Sipi Falls Hike & Coffee Tour
Start your morning with a refreshing hike to the beautiful Sipi Falls, located in the foothills of Mount Elgon. The trails range from easy walks to moderately challenging hikes, taking you through green farmland, local communities, caves, viewpoints, and the peaceful countryside surrounding Sipi.
Along the way, take your time to enjoy the fresh mountain air and some of the best views in eastern Uganda. From different viewpoints, you can look across the surrounding valleys and towards the vast plains of the Teso region stretching into the distance.
Sipi Falls is made up of three separate waterfalls cascading through the landscape at different levels. Each waterfall has its own character, and exploring them gives you a chance to experience much more than just the famous main fall.
The highlight is the spectacular main Sipi Falls, where the water drops approximately 100 metres from the cliffs above. Standing near the waterfall or seeing it from one of the surrounding viewpoints is one of the most memorable moments of the hike.
Your local guide will lead you along the trails, through the community and towards some of the best viewpoints while sharing stories about the area and everyday life around Mount Elgon.
There is no need to rush. Stop for photos, enjoy the scenery and simply take in the peaceful surroundings. Sipi is one of those places where slowing down is part of the experience.
After your morning hike, spend the afternoon discovering another side of Sipi Falls: its coffee.
The fertile volcanic soils and high altitude around the slopes of Mount Elgon provide excellent conditions for growing Arabica coffee. Coffee farming has become an important part of daily life for many families in the area.
During the coffee tour, you will be welcomed by a local family who will guide you through the traditional coffee-making process — from the tree all the way to your cup.
Walk through the coffee garden and learn how Arabica coffee is grown, cared for and harvested. Depending on the season, you may even have the opportunity to pick ripe coffee cherries yourself.
Together with your hosts, you will learn how the beans are prepared, the husks removed and the coffee traditionally roasted over a fire. You can help grind the roasted beans before finally preparing your own fresh cup of Sipi coffee.
And then comes the best part: sitting down and drinking the coffee you helped prepare.
Enjoy your freshly brewed cup while spending time with your hosts, listening to local stories and learning more about life, traditions and coffee farming in the Mount Elgon community.
It is a simple, personal experience that connects the beautiful landscapes of Sipi Falls with the people who call this place home.
Come for the waterfalls, stay for the coffee, and leave with a little more of Sipi than you arrived with.
