Discover San José in a different way, accompanied by a Costa Rican history teacher who will help you understand the capital beyond its buildings and streets.
The tour begins at the National Museum of Costa Rica, where you'll learn about different moments in the country's history and the processes that contributed to shaping today's Costa Rica.
Afterwards, you'll visit Parque España and other spaces where history can be found in places that often go unnoticed. You'll discover a fragment of the Berlin Wall, one of the oldest historical sundials in the city, and a unique sound amphitheater. You'll also learn about the Film Center and its importance to Costa Rican culture.
We'll continue on foot to the historic center of San José. We'll pass by Plaza de la Cultura, the Teatro Variedades, and the Teatro Popular Melico Salazar, while learning about the evolution of the city and its cultural life.
Our route will continue to Plaza de la Democracia and the National Theater, one of the country's most emblematic buildings and a symbol of the economic and cultural transformation associated with the development of the coffee economy.
You'll also see the Costa Rica Post Office Building, the Herdocia Building, and the area around the Central Bank, while learning how architecture, institutions, and social changes transformed San José.
The tour will continue to the Central Market, one of the most traditional spaces in the capital, where you'll learn about its importance in everyday life and part of the gastronomic and cultural richness of Costa Rica.
We'll finish at Parque Central, in front of the Metropolitan Parish.
During the tour, you'll take part in questions and activities related to the places we'll visit. Those who answer correctly will be able to win small local prizes, at no additional cost.
This experience combines history, culture, architecture, and gastronomy. It's not just about seeing places, but also about learning to observe San José and understanding the stories behind its streets, buildings, and public spaces.
