It is a great way to experience Japanese culture even during a busy sightseeing schedule. 【Experience Overview】 We will start with a brief introduction to the history of tatami and how it has been used in Japanese homes. We will also explain what 'igusa' (rush grass) is, how it is used in tatami, and how it is processed. After the introduction, it is time to start making your mini tatami mat! First, you will choose your preferred color of igusa. Then, you will select your favorite design from a variety of colors and patterns for the 'tatami-beri' (tatami border fabric). The combination you choose will greatly change the overall look, allowing you to enjoy creating a design that is uniquely yours. Once the design is set, you will attach the igusa to the base, shape it, and apply the tatami-beri. You will use tools such as scissors, hammers, and nails throughout the process. Even if it is your first time, our staff will guide you step-by-step, so beginners can enjoy the crafting process with confidence. Finally, after finishing the back side, your one-of-a-kind original mini tatami mat is complete! There is a soba noodle shop called 'Soba-dokoro Marucho Honke' on the 1st floor, but the studio is not inside the noodle shop. The studio is located inside the apartment building (3.9BLD) next to the soba shop. If you have trouble finding the location, please use 'Soba-dokoro Marucho Honke' as a landmark.
