Knossos is the site of the most important and best-known palace of Minoan
civilization. The Palace is connected with thrilling legends, such as King Minos, son of Zeus, the Minotaur which was kept in the tremendous Labyrinth and the story of Daedalus and Icarus.
The Archaeological Site was discovered in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos. Arthur Evans conducted
systematic excavations at the site between 1900 and 1931, bringing to light the
palace, a large section of the Minoan city, and the cemeteries.
Nowadays, Knossos Palace sightseeing is a timeless gateway to myth and history. Wander through its grand courtyards, admire vivid frescoes, and explore winding corridors that echo the splendor of Europe’s first great civilization.
