You’ve seen the Rijksmuseum, visited the Anne Frank House, enjoyed a canal cruise, and learned the hard way about bike lanes. Now it’s time to go local: rent a bike and explore Amsterdam like a true Amsterdammer.

You’ve already heard that bike bell ringing “GRINGA-RING-GRING-GRING!!” urging you to move out of the way—it can be a bit scary! But now that you know the rules, it’s your chance to ride around the city.

Biking is the main way to get around in Amsterdam, with more bikes than people and locals cycling over 2 million kilometers every day. Renting a bike is the best way to see the city.

Just head to Yellow Bikes, which has been renting bikes since 1990. They’re located in the city center and offer various bike tours and 24-hour rentals. The friendly staff will help you get set up quickly.

**Tip:** Remember, locals bike in Amsterdam every day, but you don’t. Stick to the right side of the bike lanes until you feel comfortable, and pay attention to how locals use hand signals. Then you can do the same!
