The Xuyue sightseeing train was renovated by modern designers and vehicle manufacturers to renovate the carriages of the Alishan Forest Railway, integrating the natural ecology and the small train.

[Upstream | Chiayi → Fenqihu Route | Low Altitude → Medium Altitude] The area from the flatland to the 800-meter Independence Mountain is a tropical forest, where rich vegetation grows, such as longan, acacia and fir. From Merdeka Mountain to Pingzhaena at 1,800 meters, there is a warm zone forest, mainly containing tree species such as camphor and nanmu. The Independence Mountain Station on the route is a switchback station, and its track forms an X-shaped switchback line. The way to climb Independence Mountain is like a "spiral", passing through 8 tunnels along the way. When the train passes through the entrance of tunnel No. 5, you can overlook Zhanghoriao Station in the southwest from the viewing platform. The train completes its first loop after entering Tunnel No. 6, then begins its second loop, and finally enjoys the view of Zhanghoriao Station from Tunnel No. 8. Finally, the train enters Tunnel No. 9 and ends its second loop of journey, arriving at Independence Hill Station.
[Upstream | Fenqihu → Alishan Route | Medium Altitude → High Altitude] After 15 years of interruption, the construction of Tunnel 42 finally opened up the last mile of this section of the route, allowing passengers to take a small train directly to Alishan. Enjoy this special route along the way. This section of the construction method is famous for its unique Z-shaped route. This is because the small train must gradually increase the altitude by advancing and retreating due to the limited hinterland. Passengers also stopped and drove backwards, jokingly calling this process "the Alishan train hit the wall".
[Round Trip | Alishan ↔ 20,000-meter Route | High Altitude] The Xuyue Train on the high mountain route will be transformed into a "Sunset Train". Only one train will depart on the day, giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent sea of clouds and sunset on the mountains and deeply experience the unique beautiful atmosphere of the mountains. The 20,000-square-meter station, located at an altitude of 2,000 meters, has a tranquil mountain forest scenery that is very different from Alishan. This is a great place to watch the sunset over Tashan and the sea of clouds. The stunning scenery is unforgettable.
[Round Trip | Alishan ↔ Zhushan Route | High Altitude] On the high-altitude forest route, you can not only enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Yushan peaks, but also participate in in-depth ecological experience activities led by professional tour guides. Zhushan Station is located at the highest point of Taiwan Railway. Because fog is prone to appear in mountainous areas, it is also called the "King of the Mist". [Downward｜Alishan→Fenchihu Route｜High Altitude→Medium Altitude] This section of the route runs from medium altitude to the plain. It not only has rich natural landscapes, but also carries the unique historical significance of the intersection of Taiwan's plain line and high mountain line. It especially stops at a station that is not usually easy to reach. There is a retro building of a century-old grocery store, which allows you to deeply experience the atmosphere of the forestry railway at that time. As you approach the flat land, you will pass the junction of the flat land line and the high mountain line, where you can appreciate the special construction method of the triangular line.
[Downward | Fenqihu → Chiayi Route | Mid-altitude → Low-altitude] This section runs from mid-altitude to flatland. It not only has rich natural landscapes, but also carries the unique historical significance of the intersection of Taiwan's flatline and mountain line. It especially stops at ordinary times. The station that is less accessible has a century-old retro building that was a grocery store, giving you a profound experience of the atmosphere of the forestry railway back then. - We regret that we cannot reserve seats in advance. Seating in the carriages is subject to Lion Travel's arrangement, and we do not accept requests to change seats on the spot. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
- Before the completion of the barrier-free carriage renovation, the Forest Railway Administration and Lion Travel Association sent staff to assist passengers using folding wheelchairs to get on and off the sightseeing train, the Hsi Yue Express.
- When making a reservation, please be sure to specify your preferred meat or vegetable option in the special requirements section. We do not offer purely vegetarian options; only meat-based and lacto-ovo vegetarian dishes are available.
- Please book this event no later than 5 business days (excluding public holidays). Booking is successful once payment is completed, and tickets will be issued immediately upon receipt of the voucher. Please pay special attention to the dates when placing your order.
- Xuyue sightseeing train: Children aged 0-1 years do not occupy a seat, while children aged 2 years and above must occupy a seat.

- Pets such as cats, dogs, rabbits, fish, and shrimp may be carried on board in a pet carrier or bag with a length of 43 cm, width of 32 cm, and height of 31 cm or less, provided the packaging is secure and there is no risk of fecal leakage, and the bag is placed under the seat. (However, during outbreaks of rabies or other diseases, pets such as cats and dogs are prohibited from being brought on board in areas designated as prohibited by the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan). The Council of Agriculture's announcement only applies to the Fenqihu area of Chiayi City, where the above-mentioned pets are permitted for transport.
- The aforementioned pets do not include birds, snakes, wild animals, or species that pose a danger to travelers or affect public health.
