Jinshan Sulfuric Fire Fishing Season (Bong Fire):
Bong Fire refers to a traditional Taiwanese fishing culture where fishermen use light sources to catch fish at night. It is named after the 'bong' sound produced when the flames are ignited. Locally known in Jinshan as 'Qi-zai Boat', it is the world's only remaining sulfuric fire fishing method. Consequently, this technique was registered as a cultural asset of New Taipei City in 2015. Currently, only one boat, the Fu-Ji 268, located in Huanggang Fishing Port in Jinshan District, New Taipei City, remains to carry on this cultural heritage. In recent years, the Ministry of Education's curriculum has placed great importance on marine cultural education, making this an excellent opportunity to bring children to experience the unique history of fishing villages and engage in outdoor education. During the tour, we will not only introduce the origins and operational methods of Bong Fire but also provide special insights into fish species and sustainable seafood consumption. Let us walk along the historic Fish Road together for a one-of-a-kind seafaring journey!
