Product Info
Approximately 20 minutes by shuttle bus from Narita Airport. Join a local guide to explore Japan's first 'one-stop export hub,' where quarantine, customs, and other export procedures can be completed entirely within the market! Tour the produce, seafood, and logistics facilities, and enjoy shopping on market days.
Did you know there is a market right next to Narita Airport dedicated to sending food overseas?
Narita City Public Wholesale Market (Narita Market) relocated to the Tenjin-mine area adjacent to Narita Airport in January 2022. The site spans approximately 9.3 hectares, roughly twice the size of the Tokyo Dome. It features produce, seafood, and high-tech logistics buildings, and general visitors can observe the market's operations and distribution systems from a dedicated viewing course.
The market's most distinctive feature is its status as Japan's first 'one-stop export hub.' The high-tech logistics building centralizes functions such as processing, refrigeration/freezing, and export preparation. Essential export procedures, including the receipt of export certificates, plant quarantine, explosive detection, and customs clearance, can all be handled on-site. Leveraging its proximity to Narita Airport, this system ensures that Japanese agricultural and marine products reach overseas markets as fresh as possible.
On this tour, you will take a shuttle bus from Narita Airport Terminal 2 to the market. As you walk along the second-floor viewing course, your local guide will provide easy-to-understand explanations of the roles of the produce, seafood, and high-tech logistics buildings, how this market differs from traditional ones, hygiene and temperature management, and the journey of agricultural and marine products from collection to international shipment. The produce building handles fruits and vegetables from across the country, including Narita specialties, while the seafood building features catches arriving from ports like Choshi.
This is a bit different from 'food-hopping' markets like Toyosu or Tsukiji. What we want you to see here is the new face of a market located right next to Narita Airport, dedicated to 'delivering Japanese food to the world.' This tour is highly recommended for those interested in airports, logistics, agriculture, fisheries, and exports.
On market days, general visitors can purchase produce and seafood, and may also be able to use shops in the related food building. However, as this is a wholesale market, operating conditions vary significantly depending on the time and day of the week. This tour does not guarantee shopping or dining opportunities.

Customer Reviews (1)
A highly satisfying airport retreat experience that also satisfies intellectual curiosity!
5.0
I participated with two other women, and it was a truly satisfying tour that all of us felt was 'worth joining!'
First, we were given plenty of information that makes your time at the airport much more enjoyable, such as an overview of Narita Airport facilities, recommended spots, shops where you can use discount coupons, and noteworthy limited-time areas. Even while moving on the bus, the guide provided detailed explanations of the airport-related facilities visible from the window from a local's perspective, making it feel like we were 'traveling behind the scenes of the airport.'
At Toho Shrine, the guide shared fun and detailed insights, including the shrine's origins and historical background, as well as the best times to see airplanes and photo spots. I was moved by the fusion of history, aviation, and local culture.
Furthermore, at the new Narita Market, we learned about the one-stop export functions, the customs system, and the connection between the airport and logistics that we usually take for granted, realizing value that 'you wouldn't understand just by looking.' We also learned about the history around the market and local hidden gems, making me want to visit again with more time.

It was more than just sightseeing; it was an 'intellectual retreat' that broadened our knowledge. It was an unforgettable experience that completely changed my impression of Narita Airport. I would love to participate again in a different season. Thank you very much!
