Product Info

Begin your journey in Sydney, the largest community in Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Founded in 1785, Sydney became an important coal mining and steelmaking center. Today, it serves as a gateway to the Cabot Trail and the Bras d'Or Lake region.

Continue to North Sydney, a historic port town known for its ferry service to Newfoundland. Since the late 1800s, it has been an important transportation hub. Next, visit Millville, a small rural community along Highway 105. Known for its scenic countryside, it is part of the traditional farming communities of Cape Breton.

Cross the Seal Island Bridge, which spans the Great Bras d'Or Channel, connecting the northern and southern parts of Cape Breton Island. Opened in 1961, it offers beautiful views of the Bras d'Or Lake, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Arrive at Saint Anns Bay, one of the oldest European settlement areas in Nova Scotia. French settlers arrived here in 1629. Today, it is known for its beautiful coastline, Gaelic culture, and as the gateway to the famous Cabot Trail.

Finally, reach Baddeck, a picturesque village on the shores of Bras d'Or Lake. The name comes from a Mi'kmaq word, believed to mean "place with an island near." It became the county seat of Victoria County in 1851 and is now one of Cape Breton's most popular tourist destinations.

Learn about Alexander Graham Bell, who first visited Baddeck in 1885 with his wife, Mabel. They loved the area and built their summer estate, Beinn Bhreagh ("Beautiful Mountain" in Scottish Gaelic), overlooking Baddeck Bay.

Although Bell is best known as the inventor of the telephone, he also carried out groundbreaking work in aviation, hydrofoil boats, kites, marine engineering, and education for deaf people. At Beinn Bhreagh, Bell and his team developed the Silver Dart, which made the first powered flight in Canada in 1909. He continued experimenting there until his death in 1922.

Explore the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, which displays Bell's inventions, photographs, models, and personal belongings. The museum overlooks Baddeck Bay and Beinn Bhreagh, where Bell lived and worked.
