Begin in Copiapó, the main logistics hub for Ojos del Salado, where the team meets the guides, checks equipment and prepares for 14 days in the high Atacama. This is not a basic climb package: Andes Specialists runs one of the most complete expedition systems in the region, built for climbers who want serious altitude support without giving up comfort.

After the briefing, travel by adapted 4WD vehicles into the desert and the Andes. The route follows a progressive acclimatisation plan rather than rushing straight to the mountain. You first move through Atacama landscapes towards Laguna Santa Rosa and the Nevado Tres Cruces area, gaining altitude gradually and hiking on surrounding peaks such as Cerro Siete Hermanas. Expect remote lagoons, volcanoes, salt flats, flamingos, desert silence and wide views across one of the driest mountain regions on Earth.

The expedition then moves to our private camp at Laguna Verde, away from the crowded main camping area. This base becomes the centre of the climb. Here you will find a real dining tent, chef-prepared meals, clean water, charging facilities, Starlink internet, generator and solar power, storage space, ecological toilets and one of the only shower systems in the area. The camp is designed to be calmer, cleaner and more comfortable than a standard altitude basecamp.

From Laguna Verde, the team continues the altitude programme with climbs and hikes such as Mulas Muertas, Nevado San Francisco and Tejos. These stages help the body adapt before the final summit push. Guides monitor the group every day, including oxygen saturation checks, general health assessments and decisions based on weather, road conditions and individual performance. The aim is to reach Ojos del Salado with the team acclimatised, rested and safe.

Summit day starts very early, usually during the night. The team uses 4WD support to reach the high approach before climbing towards the crater and summit section of Ojos del Salado, 6,898 metres above sea level. The route is mostly non-technical but takes place at extreme altitude, with cold, wind, long hours and a short exposed scramble near the top. Strong fitness, previous altitude experience and good personal equipment are essential.

On the mountain you are supported by experienced Andes guides, satellite communication, medical equipment and medical oxygen if needed. The operation is shaped by years of work on Ojos del Salado and by the regional experience of founder Max Kausch, who has climbed every 6,000-metre peak in this part of the Andes. Andes Specialists guides also work on high-altitude objectives in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Aconcagua.

After the summit attempt, return to Laguna Verde and then back to Copiapó. This expedition is ideal for fit climbers looking for the highest volcano on Earth with private camp infrastructure, professional logistics, adapted vehicles, better food, real recovery space, daily health checks and a carefully planned acclimatisation strategy.
