Private Experience at OffTrack Experience
Leave the crowds behind for a private dogsledding experience at OffTrack Experience, our small family-run husky kennel in Målselv, around two hours’ drive from Tromsø. Your booking has its own guide, allowing us to adapt the day to your group and give you time to connect with the dogs.
Transport
Come by rental car or public bus. If travelling from Tromsø by bus, we help you choose the connection matching the tour. We collect you at the confirmed meeting point—usually Bardufoss sentrum, or sometimes Buktamoen depending on the timetable—and return you afterwards. The local transfer may be shared with another private group. Bus tickets are not included.
Welcome and Meet the Huskies
After a warm welcome, we provide the winter clothing listed in the inclusions. Meet our pack of around 35 Alaskan huskies and learn about their personalities, daily life, training and care. Your guide explains how the team works, how to handle the sled and how we communicate with the dogs, followed by a clear safety briefing.
Drive or Ride
No previous experience is needed. Drive your own dog team, share the driving with someone in your group, or enjoy the journey as a passenger with your guide. This suits adventurous guests as well as those preferring a gentler way to take part. Families are welcome, and the private format lets us adapt roles and pace to your group.
On the Trail
Watch your guide prepare and harness the teams before setting off through quiet boreal forest and Arctic mountain landscapes. The dogs are enthusiastic athletes who love to run. Drivers should be ready to help by pushing uphill and controlling the sled downhill. You can normally change driver during the tour.
The route, pace, team and time spent moving depend on the snow, weather, trail conditions and how each dog is feeling. Dog welfare always comes first, so your guide may adapt the experience whenever needed.
Lunch Around the Fire
During the tour, we usually stop on the trail for a warm Norwegian lunch around a wood fire. We serve reindeer soup, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free alternatives available when requested in advance. It is time to warm up, enjoy the wilderness and hear more about life with a working husky pack in Northern Norway.
Return to the Farm
After lunch, continue through the winter landscape before returning to the kennel. You are welcome to help unharness the dogs and thank your team. We then gather in our cosy log cabin for coffee or tea, homemade cake and conversation about the dogs and our seasonal life in the Arctic.
The complete experience lasts around four hours at the farm, excluding travel and transfers. Because every tour is private and conditions vary, the exact rhythm may change slightly.
Stay Overnight at the Husky Farm
OffTrack Experience also offers private overnight stays in our guesthouse at the husky farm, for guests who want more time with the dogs and a slower Arctic experience.
