Itinerary
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Lalibela
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, begin exploring the remarkable rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Ethiopia’s most important religious destinations. Discover the history, architecture, and spiritual significance of these ancient monolithic churches.

Day 2: Lalibela
Spend the full day exploring more of Lalibela’s famous churches, including hidden tunnels, sacred passageways, and beautifully carved worship spaces. Visit the iconic Church of St. George (Bete Giyorgis) and learn about the rich traditions of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. Enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere and local cultural charm of Lalibela.

Day 3: Lalibela – Semera
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Semera, the gateway to the Afar Region and the Danakil Depression. Upon arrival, meet your expedition team and prepare for your desert adventure. Travel through the dramatic landscapes of northeastern Ethiopia and experience the unique culture of the Afar people.

Day 4: Semera – Lake Afdera – Erta Ale Volcano
Drive through the Afar desert to Lake Afdera, a beautiful salt lake surrounded by volcanic scenery. Continue toward Erta Ale Volcano, one of the world’s few continuously active volcanoes. Upon arrival, trek to the summit and enjoy the unforgettable volcanic landscape and dramatic crater views.

Day 5: Erta Ale – Lake Asale – Ahmed Ela
After sunrise at Erta Ale, descend and continue your journey to the salt flats of Lake Asale. Witness the fascinating traditional salt mining activities of the Afar people and enjoy one of the most photogenic landscapes in Ethiopia. Continue to Ahmed Ela, your base for the Dallol excursion.
Overnight at Ahmed Ela Oasis Camp
Day 6: Ahmed Ela – Dallol – Mekele – Addis Ababa
Early in the morning, visit the spectacular Dallol hydrothermal field, famous for its colorful mineral formations, geothermal pools, sulfur springs, and salt terraces. After exploring this surreal landscape, drive to Mekele for your flight back to Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian cultural dinner with music and dance before your hotel or airport drop-off.
