Begin your adventure with a pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Puerto Madryn or Trelew. Head southwest, traveling approximately 200 km to reach the Dique Florentino Ameghino.
Pass through tunnels carved into a massive rock, leading you to the top of the concrete wall that forms the dam. This impressive hydroelectric engineering work was designed to both generate energy and regulate the flow of the Chubut River.
From one side of the concrete wall, admire a lake surrounded by reddish rocks, creating an imposing frame in the midst of a natural landscape. On the other side, the rocky cliffs form a reddish canyon that encloses the river's waters for several kilometers. Along the banks, the vegetation and the color of the Chubut River's water create a perfect landscape for relaxation and contemplation of nature in all its splendor.
The tour also includes a visit to Villa Dique Florentino Ameghino, a small town located on the riverbank that is home to approximately 200 inhabitants. Here, take a short tour of the town and learn more about life in this charming community.
Next, continue your journey to the charming town of Gaiman, a beautiful Welsh colony located on the banks of the Chubut River. Gaiman was the first municipality of Chubut, and although its name is not of Welsh origin but Tehuelche, meaning "Sharpening Stone" or "Stone Point," this town preserves a rich Welsh heritage.
In Gaiman, visit the Railway Tunnel, where history comes to life inside, and the Railway Museum, which immerses you further in the region's history. Also, explore the First Welsh House, a historical gem, and the old chapels, beautiful constructions of English architecture that played a fundamental role in the life of the settlers.
As an optional extra, enjoy the Traditional Welsh Tea, an experience that allows you to savor a variety of cakes, breads, and homemade regional sweets while immersing yourself in the rich Welsh culinary culture.
