Mangrove Tour in Isla Cañas｜Panama

Cañas Island is located off the coast of the Azuero Peninsula in Panama, just past the town of Pedasi and the beach area of Playa Venao. It was declared a wildlife refuge in 1994, encompassing a protected area of 254.3 km². Cañas Island covers 832 hectares, which is it quite large. 1,200 hectares of mangroves form part of the protected area surrounding the island.

On the Cañas Island Mangrove Tour, you will observe five different species of mangroves, including red, white, and black mangroves. Your guide has extensive knowledge of mangroves and their importance to the ecosystem. This tour can be done by boat or kayak, depending on your preference. Those who choose to go by boat will have the opportunity to try their hand at traditional fishing (please let us know).

It is possible to observe numerous bird species, such as pelicans, frigatebirds, herons, egrets, and other migratory shorebirds that feed seasonally. The mangroves are also a breeding ground for many animals, so you'll may be able to see reptiles, including crocodiles, as well as fish and crustaceans.

You can also see the mangroves on Cañas Island itself, as the locals built a wooden walkway to cross it. This tour includes a horse-drawn carriage ride around the island. Swimming is possible on the 13-kilometer beach. Lunch or dinner is included, depending on the time preferred by the guests. The sunset tour of the Cañas Island mangroves is simply spectacular.
