Start your day with a pickup from your hotel within Beijing’s 5th Ring Road and transfer to Beijing North Railway Station. Board a high-speed train to Datong South Railway Station, where your private bilingual guide and driver will meet you at the arrival exit with a name sign.

Begin your tour with a visit to the Huayan Temple, a landmark Liao and Jin dynasty Buddhist temple complex. Explore the Grand Hall of Mahavira, the Bhagavan Sutra Library with its famous “smiling Bodhisattva” statue, and the Huayan Pagoda with its underground palace. Enjoy official on-site commentary with real-time translation.

Next, your guide will recommend authentic local restaurants near the ancient city for lunch. Try Datong signature dishes such as knife-cut noodles and shaomai dumplings (at your own expense).

After lunch, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Yungang Grottoes, with a comprehensive 4-hour guided tour. Learn about Northern Wei dynasty history and the cultural fusion of grotto art.
