उत्पाद जानकारी

  • What is Taste of K-festival at the Suwon Hwaseong Festival?

Taste of K-festival is a Korean cooking class held at the Food Culture Experience Center of the Suwon Center for Traditional Culture during the Suwon Hwaseong Festival. It is built around the idea of a "janchi", the traditional Joseon-era banquet thrown for weddings, birthdays and holidays, where the point was never just the food but the sharing of it. On festive days neighbors cooked in quantity and passed dishes over the wall to each other, and that spirit of hospitality is what the class tries to hand over along with the recipes. It is designed specifically for international visitors and runs in English, so the cultural context comes with the cooking rather than being lost in translation.

  • What can I cook at the Korean janchi cooking class in Suwon?

The class runs about 80 minutes and covers two of the dishes that anchor a Korean feast table. First is japchae, the glass noodle dish stir-fried with vegetables and meat that shows up at almost every Korean celebration, where the work is in the prep and the balance of seasoning. Second is jeon, the savory pan-fried dish made by slicing ingredients thin, coating them in flour and beaten egg, and frying them in oil until the edges turn golden. You cook in pairs, so there is a partner to split the chopping and the pan with, and sessions are kept to 16 people. Best of all, you do not have to eat it all on the spot: pack up what you made and take it with you into the Suwon Hwaseong Festival grounds.
