- Activity Introduction -
Yilan is known for its frequent rain, and Songluo Lake is often shrouded in a thin veil of mist, making it impossible to see the full view. It is as shy and beautiful as a young girl, which is why it is nicknamed the 'Lake of the Seventeen-Year-Old Girl.' Located in the mountains of Wulai District, New Taipei City, most people access it from the trailhead in Songluo Village, Datong Township, Yilan County. After reaching the highest point, the 'Cross-Ridge Saddle,' and walking down another 600 meters, you will see Songluo Lake! From April to October each year, the lake is at its fullest, offering breathtaking views of shimmering waters and mountain scenery. In other months, while the water levels are lower, you can enjoy the sight of winding streams and lush green meadows.
The one-way distance from the trailhead to Songluo Lake is less than 6 km (see the image below for elevation and distance changes). It takes about 5-6 hours to hike up and 3-4 hours to hike down, making it an excellent training route for high-mountain trekking. This two-day, one-night trip allows you to camp by the lake, enjoy the rare pleasures of the mountains, admire the mysterious mountain scenery of Songluo Lake during the day, and be surrounded by sparkling stars at night. You do not need to carry public gear (tents, sleeping bags) throughout the journey, and mountain porters will help prepare dinner and breakfast for the next day, offering the most relaxing way to experience the beauty of Songluo Lake.
